RBS Idents

I just finished work on a series of six idents for the Royal Bank of Scotland, ranging from five to 15 seconds in length. The text 'RBS Mortgages' spins and morphs in 3D to transform into a variety of houses. Directed by Filipe Alçada, their visual style is clean and simple but appealing. I produced three of the six idents in their entirety, including the one shown in the image above, called 'Scottish Villa'. These idents will initially be used in Scotland for sponsorship of property related shows on Channel 4, such as Grand Designs, Location Location Location and Property Ladder. In England at least, these sponsorship slots are currently held by NatWest—who are owned by RBS—so it is possible they could be re-branded when (and if) they come south of the border. All six of the idents can be seen at Bermuda Shorts' website.

Samsung 'Attraction'

Inspired by the aesthetic of Sin City comes this commercial for a new line of Samsung LCD TVs, produced in two different versions for the German and Polish markets. The commercial was shot on a green screen and the majority of backgrounds were created in post using a mix of 3D and digital matte paintings. I modelled and textured several of the buildings used in the cityscape as well as the screening room used for the Polish version.

Market Kitchen

Just before Christmas I worked on a new title sequence for Market Kitchen, a cookery show on UKTV Food. The stop-motion animated film depicts a year's worth of seasonal food in a time lapse sequence. I supplied some small CG effects specific to each season, such as a butterfly which flits across in spring, flowering thyme in summer, falling leaves in autumn and snow in winter. Keep an eye out for the new series which I believe starts on January 7th.

Halfords 'Santa'

Finally, my first proper post on this blog. I've just completed a short CG job for Halfords' Christmas campaign: Father Christmas riding a bike to Halfords to collect presents for all the family! Agency M&C Saatchi must have had their finest minds developing that concept all year! Sarcasm aside, it's turned out to be a nice job, despite a particularly punishing budget and schedule. The 10 seconds of 3D animation will be cut together with product shots illustrating various promotions in the run up to Christmas.

Blog!

I've now managed to get blogging functionality working on my site. Basically I'm using Blogger to handle the blogging backend, and a neat little PHP parser called SimplePie to take the RSS feed from Blogger and embed it into the front page. Now I can make quick updates from anywhere, finally bringing my site out of the static HTML era. The next step is to get the portfolio working dynamically, which will involve me learning more PHP, so it could be a while.

Site update

I have neglected this site quite a lot due to the amount of work I've been doing recently and it seems a few pages are broken. I am working on a complete overhaul of this site and that includes a new portfolio section which will hopefully be up and running soon. I also have a new blog-based front page which should allow me to post updates more often. I intend to post new work up here fairly regularly, but knowing me it is unlikely to be that often... we shall see.
